2022 Clean Gulf Conference

On November 8th through 10th, the Spill Control Association of America attended the 2022 Clean Gulf Conference in New Orleans, LA at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. This three-day conference allowed for members of the spill response industry to convene for networking and professional development sessions. Session tracks included Planning and Preparedness, Response, Training and Exercises Best Management Practices, Safety in Preparedness, Planning, and Response, Response Technologies and Research, and Emerging Trends and Concerns. SCAA President Nelson Fetgatter moderated a session focused on Responding and Evolving in a Changing Marketplace while Vice President Angie Martin moderated a session focused on Unique Hazards. On the evening of November 8th, SCAA Vice President Angie Martin was honored along with other well-regarded women in the spill response industry during the Women in Emergency Management Forum. The forum honored the past while acknowledging the future of women in the spill response industry. In addition to being honored, Angie was a featured speaker where she told her story of how she entered the spill response industry, the major work she has done, and her motivation behind performing safe work in the industry.

Following the Women in Emergency Management Forum, SCAA hosted their annual reception at Clean Gulf. SCAA members and prospective members networked over refreshments and New Orleans cuisine before SCAA President Nelson Fetgatter addressed the well-attended group. Nelson’s address included honoring Brian Fay, introducing new members to SCAA, and announcing new SCAA committee chairs. To close out the reception, Outreach Director John Allen was honored as Director Emeritus for his hard work and dedication to SCAA and the spill response industry as a whole.
