Membership Update from SCAA President


SCAA Members:

Happy New Year! The promise of vaccines has us all in anticipation like the “Heinz Ketchup” commercial of many years ago. If you don’t remember it you can find it on YouTube. We all continue to adhere to COVID-19 guidelines to remain safe and well for ourselves, families and companies here are the highlights from the December 17th 2020 Board of Directors Meeting.

 

Highlights from the BOD meeting:

  • Executive Committee working with Committee Chairs and Staff to finalize the 2021 Strategic Vision and Business Plan.
  • SCAA Financials remained healthy this year. We did experience a decrease in membership and hope to welcome them back when conditions are favorable. We have had one new associate member to start the new year. Thank you to all members that are committed to the success of our industry and your association. The budget for 2021 was approved.
  • The Planning Committee and Staff have sent out a survey re: the Annual Meeting and Conference. The idea is to have a Virtual Annual Meeting in March/April timeframe and an In-Person Conference later in the year. They are busy putting together agendas and topics for these events.
  • IOSC 2021 – May 10 – 14, 2021 will be virtual – SCAA participates on the planning committee and is closely monitoring the developments especially sponsorship and exhibitor plans.
  • Clean Events are scheduled as follows:
    • Clean Pacific – June 28 – 30, 2021 – Seattle, WA (a survey has been sent by the Clean Events team to gauge participation) - SCAA is considering a Roundtable/Workshop the day before the conference begins.
    • Clean Waterways – September 13 - 15, 2021 – Louisville, KY - SCAA is considering a Roundtable/Workshop the day before the conference begins.
    • Clean Gulf – November 16 – 18, 2021 – San Antonio, TX - SCAA will have a booth, reception and possible conference
  • Past President’s Committee working on the nominations and elections for 2021.
  • Membership Committee is in the process of revising the SCAA informational flyer as well as other membership recruitment and retention initiatives.
  • Government Affairs Committee
    • The MMC initiative was passed after overriding the former President’s veto. The GAC is in communication with the ASA Regulatory Affairs Committee on the next steps and recommendations.
  • Health and Safety Committee is working to reschedule the safety questionnaire.
  • Future Environmental Leaders Committee is working on hosting a virtual workshop for non-floating oil and the 2021 Environmental Excellence Awards program.
  • Technology Advancement Committee nothing new to report.
  • Communications / Marketing Committee presented a couple of initiatives to the BOD. The BOD has asked for budget, plans, and timeline for these initiatives.
  • Ad hoc Educational Committee remains on hold.
