NOAA Office of Response & Restoration Lecture Series: You Don’t Know What You Don’t Know – Integrated Ecological Modeling, March 2023

The Office of Response & Restoration (OR&R) has an ongoing lecture series that allows experts to present on topics related to emergency spill response every month. These speakers are specialists from either federal or state government entities, academic institutions, and members of the industry and speak on a wide variety of topics.

The lecture that will be presented on March 23, 2023, will include scientists from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) which, according to the USACE Integrated Ecological Modeling website, “the integrated ecological modeling team develops multi-scale computational ecological models to solve large-scale environmental issues.” The scientists that will be speaking on this topic include, Emily Russ, PhD, Research Biologist; Todd Swannack, PhD, Senior Research Ecologist and Co-Lead for Integrated Ecological Modeling Team; and Candice Piercy, PhD, Senior Environmental Engineer and Co-Lead for Integrated Ecological Modeling Team.

About the OR&R Lecture Series and How to Attend

The topics planned this year will range from, “booms to birds, burning to bacteria, and satellites to submarines.” With a 45-minute format presented via Adobe Connect, followed by 15 minutes of Q&A, these are easily attended and can be beneficial to anyone in our industry. With the exception of March, these lectures are held on the third Thursday of every month and upcoming lecture topics are announced on the month of the presentation. Past lectures in the series can be found on the linked page below.
