2022 SCAA Annual Meeting & Conference

On April 27 and 28, 2022, the Spill Control Association of America held its Annual Meeting & Conference at the Marriott Savannah Riverfront hotel. For the first time since 2019, over one hundred SCAA members from across the country gathered to celebrate the association’s 49th year as, “The Voice of Spill Response Professionals.” This event provided members with a great lineup of presentations, guest speakers, and the first ever “Aerial and On-water Technology” demonstrations performed live for all of those in attendance.
Conference Program
Opening on Wednesday, April 27, this conference provided information on industry changes, pending regulatory updates, and best practices amongst our membership. SCAA President, Nelson Fetgatter, opened the floor with his State of the Association address and Election Results before the panels began. Over thirty guest speakers across ten panels provided insight into DOT inspections, offshore wind energy preparedness, cyber security practices, technology advancement, lithium battery recycling and best practices, and so much more.

On-Water Technology Demonstrations
On Thursday, April 28, the morning began with SCAA’s first ever, live, aerial and on-water demonstration of new industry technologies. Performed on the Savannah River right outside of the hotel, attendees watched seven different demonstrations and deployments from companies within the SCAA network. These companies included:

Balaena, LLC
Marine Spill response Corp. (MSRC),
Qualitech
Moran Environmental Recovery, LLC
Lewis Environmental, and HEPACO.
Photos from each of these demonstrations as well as links to more information on each piece of technology. Videos of ExxonMobil’s Burning Tongue & Autonomous Surface Vessel, the BSEE Burner and Sea Machines Robotics were shown during the Technologies Advancement panel session.
