SCAA Supports 2014 International Oil Spill Conference

The Spill Control Association of America (SCAA) participated in the International Oil Spill Conference (IOSC) held in Savannah, GA, May 5-8. In addition to exhibiting at IOSC, SCAA’s Executive Director, John Allen worked with a planning committee comprised of the U.S. Coast Guard, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) and a team of SCAA members to facilitate the On-Water and Aerial Technology Demonstration that took place on May 7.  The theme of the demonstration was “A Complete Spill Response System”.  The objective was to demonstrate oil spill response resources involving the newest and existing technologies, configured to increase the effectiveness of a response such as improved detection, tracking and increased encounter and recovery of oil and other hazardous materials in the future. The demonstration scenario revolved around a simulated spill that is initially indicated by a remote detection device that sends an alert, with coordinates, to all parties involved in such an event, from the responsible party to the responders. The demonstration lasted approximately 45 minutes. The on-water demonstration was the centerpiece of SCAA’s support during this year’s IOSC Conference.  SCAA member companies including Clean Gulf Associates, Elastec American Marine, Marine Spill Response Corporation, Moran Environmental Recovery, NRC (National Response Corporation), and QualiTech Environmental participated in the on-water demonstration.
