As
the Voice of Spill Response Professionals, the Spill Control Association of
America (SCAA) is supporting and assisting with the planning and coordination
of IOSC 2014 on May 5-8 in Savannah,
GA. SCAA encouraged all members to attend IOSC, submit
technical papers, volunteer as technical paper review team members and demonstrate
equipment technologies. The centerpiece of SCAA’s support during this year’s
Conference is working with the U.S. Coast Guard IOSC Program Planning Committee
and Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) to develop and
facilitate the On-Water and Aerial Technology Demonstration schedule for 5:00
pm on May 7. The theme of the
demonstration is “A Complete Spill Response System”. The objective is to demonstrate oil spill
response resources involving the newest and existing technologies, configured
to increase the effectiveness of a response such as improved detection,
tracking and increased encounter and recovery of oil and other hazardous
materials in the future.
The
demonstration scenario will revolve around a simulated spill that is initially
indicated by a remote detection device that sends an alert, with coordinates,
to all parties involved in such an event, from the responsible party to the
responders. The 45-minute demonstration will take place during a 90 minute
outdoor reception for all conference attendees and will include a description
of the equipment deployed with live visual data feeds from the aerial unmanned
air systems, aerostat and vessel installed oil detection equipment.
SCAA
represents a broad membership of emergency responders, manufacturers and
environmental firms who collectively address Industry challenges, in order to strengthen
and improve our nation’s response community.
Its members have shown their commitment to the protection and the
preservation of our vital waterways through their very active participation in
all response and cleanup efforts whenever contaminants threaten our waters,
most notably during the Deepwater Horizon
cleanup and recovery efforts in 2010 and, more recently, the Texas City “Y” oil spill
in March, 2014. SCAA is proud of the
following member companies who will be participating in this demonstration:
Clean
Gulf Associates
Elastec

Marine
Spill Response Corporation
