TSA launches new online Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) renewal process

From the TSA.gov website (August 10, 2022, TSA website)

Get out your TWIC cards and check your expiration dates; your TWIC ID may be ready for the 5-year renewal process.

SCAA members must be very mindful of TWIC and HAZWOPER credentials for their employees. As a reminder, TWIC card is a federal identification card for Transportation Workers that gets administered to those who need unrestricted access to areas included in the maritime transportation security act, including ports, port facilities, boats, and continental shelf facilities. You are even able to get a hazardous materials endorsement also known as a hazmat endorsement added to fit your needs. What you may not know, is that TWIC cardholders are eligible for TSA PreCheck at no extra cost or additional enrollment.

Good news!  You can skip the trip to the enrollment center as TSA has provided an online credentials renewal option beginning August 11, 2022, for current TWIC holders at https://universalenroll.dhs.gov/programs/twic.  New TWIC applications can find instructions for credentialing at https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic.

TWIC is required by the Maritime Transportation Security Act for mariners / workers who need access to secure areas of the nation’s maritime facilities and vessels.  TWIC is jointly managed by TSA and the U.S. Coast Guard.  TSA conducts a background checks to determine a person’s eligibility and issues the credential; the Coast Guard regulates the use of TWIC in the maritime environment.  U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, naturalized citizens, asylum seekers, refugees, and nonimmigrants in lawful status may apply for the TWIC credential.

Please visit TSA’s enrollment provider website for information on TWIC enrollments and renewals. If applicants encounter difficulty renewing online, they may contact customer service at (855) 347-8371.
