Adm. Linda Fagan Sworn in as First Female U.S. Coast Guard Commandant

Last Wednesday history was made, and another glass ceiling shattered, when Admiral Linda L. Fagan was confirmed by the Senate as Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard. Not only is Admiral Fagan the first woman to lead the Coast Guard—but also the first woman to lead any branch of the United States Armed Forces.

With deep ties binding the USCG and the spill response industry, safe and effective oil spill prevention and response depends heavily on the Coast Guard’s talented and insightful leadership. As such, it should be noted that in President Biden’s Statement on the Confirmation, he declares “Admiral Fagan’s leadership, experience, and integrity second to none…”

SCAA extends congratulations to Admiral Fagan, and deep appreciation to Admiral Karl L. Schultz for his service in the role.
