Coast Guard Sector New Orleans Holds Change of Command Ceremony

One April 14, 2022, the United States Coast Guard Sector New Orleans held a change of command ceremony. This event commemorated Capt. Kelly Denning relieving Capt. William Watson as Commander of this sector.

This is a formal transfer of authority and responsibility, and the change-of-command ceremony has been practiced as a historic military tradition for such transfer. Not only does this reinforce the command continuity, but also provides an opportunity for the celebration of both the appointment of command as well as the celebration of the crew’s accomplishments.

Capt. Watson has been command of Sector New Orleans since May 2020 and will be taking on his next assignment as the Executive Assistant to the Vice Commandant at the Coast Guard Headquarters.

In 1998, Capt. Denning earned her commission and was designated as a Command Duty Officer in 2002. Before her new assignment, she served as the Deputy Commander at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans.

The ceremony was presided over by Rear Adm. Richard Timme, commander, Coast Guard Eighth District.
