Highlights from the BOD meeting


SCAA Members:

Trust all remain well and safe as we end Q1 of 2021! The vaccines are being delivered and administered to varying degrees throughout our great country. This is very promising as we plan for the remainder of 2021. Even if inoculated it is prudent to continue to adhere to COVID-19 guidelines to remain safe and well for ourselves, families, companies and others. Here are the highlights from the February 17th, 2021 Board of Directors Meeting.

Highlights from the BOD meeting:

·         Executive Committee finalizing the 2021 Strategic Vision and Business Plan and will be available soon.

·         SCAA Financials continue to be healthy as we enter the second quarter of the year. Thank you to all members that are committed to the success of our industry and your association. The budget for 2021 is included in the Strategic Vision and Business Plan.

·         The Planning Committee and Staff are busy working on the SCAA 2021 Virtual Annual Meeting. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 28, 2021 and will begin at 11:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time lasting 2 hours and 15 minutes to 2 hours and thirty minutes. They are looking at options to present to the BOD for an in-person event later in the year so stay tuned.

·         IOSC 2021 – May 10 – 14, 2021 will be virtual – SCAA participates on the planning committee. SCAA is maintaining the Sponsorship by way of introducing Adm. Thad Allen, and a domestic scholarship. SCAA has elected to receive a refund on the exhibit booth space and looks forward to participating in the next IOSC when it returns to the US which has not been announced.

·         Clean Events are scheduled as follows:

o    Clean Pacific – June 28 – 30, 2021 – Seattle, WA - SCAA is considering a Roundtable/Workshop the day before the conference begins.

o    Clean Waterways – September 13 - 15, 2021 – Louisville, KY - SCAA is considering a Roundtable/Workshop the day before the conference begins.

o    Clean Gulf – November 16 – 18, 2021 – San Antonio, TX - SCAA will have a booth and reception

·         Past President’s Committee working on the nominations and elections for 2021. Please be on the lookout for a general membership vote coming to the organizations contact soon.

·         Membership Committee has revised the SCAA informational flyer. And they are helping Finance with dues A/R.

·         Government Affairs Committee

o    The MMC item that included a two-year moratorium on enforcement to Non-Operating Individuals under Section 8313(b) of the Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2021 has a report requirement from the USCG to Congress withing 180 days of passage. The GAC has communicated with the ASA Regulatory Affairs Committee on the matter. The GAC drafted a proposed letter to contribute comment for the report. The letter has been sent. Similarly, ASA and ADC drafted a joint letter which also has been sent.  

·         Health and Safety Committee is working to reschedule the safety questionnaire and working on talking papers for issues that SCAA members will find interesting and useful.

·         Future Environmental Leaders Committee is working on hosting a virtual workshop for non-floating oil and the 2021 Environmental Excellence Awards program.

·         Technology Advancement Committee nothing new to report.

·         Communications / Marketing Committee presented the budget for adding a Training and Job Openings posting to our website. The budget was approved, and you should have seen the announcement regarding these two new features. You can check it out at www.scaa-spill.org .

·         Ad hoc Educational Committee remains on hold.
