James Miller Peconic River Restoration Fund Donation

SCAA donated $500 to Seatuck Environmental Association in memory of James Miller, Sr. who passed away on 25 July.  Our gift is designated to the James Miller Peconic River Restoration Fund to help support the restoration of vital migratory fish river runs on the Peconic River and the wildlife that depend on fisheries.  The organization pursues its mission by 1) employing a multi-pronged approach to various wildlife conservation projects, and 2) offering high quality environmental education opportunities for Long Islanders of all ages.

As the founder of Miller Environmental Group and co-founder of National Response Corporation in response to OPA 90, Jim Miller was a supporter of wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and research.  When his son, Mark, was President of NRC, they changed the name of the Oil Spill Response Vessel, NRC PATRIOT, to LYNNE FRINK in 1998  in honor of  Lynne Slepetz Frink, founder and president of Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research Inc., Newark, DE.  Surely Jim Miller had a behind-the-scene influence in the renaming of the vessel along with NRC’s spill response business strategy.

SCAA remains mindful of the important roles, mission and needs of our wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and research members.
