SCAA has reluctantly bid farewell to Debra Colbert and welcomed Anne Burns as SCAA’s new public relations manager. Debra announced her departure as of June 1 from SCAA in order to take a position as Senior Vice President of Waterways Council, Inc. (WCI). SCAA is very grateful for Debra’s contributions to its mission and her efforts to help SCAA members understand the importance of communication to their businesses.
SCAA President John Allen said, “Debra’s professionalism has raised the bar for communications excellence among SCAA members. Our loss is WCI’s gain, as we know she will be very successful on their behalf. She takes with her our deep appreciation and very best wishes.”
Going forward, Anne Burns will provide communications counsel to SCAA. Burns previously led the public affairs and communications advocacy efforts for the American Waterways Operators as AWO’s Vice President for Public Affairs and Communications for 12 ½ years. She recently started her own business, Anne Davis Burns Communications, specializing in maritime industry communications. Anne and Debra collaborated for years on issues of importance to WCI and AWO, and share a mutual personal and professional respect and admiration.
